

Events in Vallecamonica
Val Camonica's calendar of annual events is rich and manifold regarding themes and times and offers in all seasons interesting events all over the valley. Fairs, excursions, festivities, all those things under the sign of enogastronomic product, camun history, culture and tradition.
This is the calendar:
Art and Craft fair, Bienno.
The most important event in the valley regarding prestige and number of exhibitors. It takes place in the second half of august and attracts more than 150.000 visitors to who can witness offers of high quality and a vast variety. Since 1990 this fair now is in it's 25th year and is spreading all over the picturesque corners, streets and courts of the historic old town with more than 200 exhibitors from all over Italy and abroad. Antiquities, artcrafts and artwork can be found. The exhibitors offer a mix of current art trends and styles. In courts, on the towns squares and in taverns of the historical center painters, sculptors, smiths and craftsmen at work can be admired. Bienno is a member of the "Club of Italy's most beautiful villages" and in 2010 won the "orange ribbon" of the Touring Club Italiano. This titel is a synonym the enviormental quality of the town's tourism.
"4 portals, 4 squares", Cemmo/Capo di Ponte
In early june at Cemmo/Capo di Ponte an excursion through one of the oldest villages of the valley is offered dedicated to the enogastronomic tradition and the history. Participation is free of charge. With the ticket there will be the possibility to taste various dishes and wines along the path. For this occasion antique mansions will be made accessable for visitors, which onces have been populated by old noble families (Belotti, Visnenza, Zitti) and now hold little treasures of art and rural architecture. All 5 churches of the village are open as well as the convent of the Dorotea sisters which hosts a nice etnographic museum. In the neighbourhood of the village the rocks of Cemmo with the first rock graffities discovered a century ago can be visited.
Camun gastronomic week, Valle Camonica
In october many restaurants offer various menues with typical camun plates. The camun tradition is expressed in the choice of ingrediences and the way of preparation. All ingrediences are produced by camun farmers and winegrowers who are well known for their quality and professionality.
Scior del Torcol, wine fair of Valle Camonica, Losine and Cerbeno
The Tórcol (wine-press) is used to sqeeze the grapes until all juice is extracted. The Torcol is as well a symbol for wine culture. Between september and october 3 feastdays in Losine and Cerveno are celebrated in which camun wine and other typical products can be tasted and vineries can be visited.
Casoncelli Fair, Erbanno/Darfo Boario Terme
First Sunday in august is the first of 3 days dedicated to the most excellent camun food, the Casoncelli. Gastronomical stands, music and animation. For the camun people Casoncelli are like the mountains: they are part of their home country and tradition and belong to all kind of celebrations.
Celebration of the Sardine, Marone
The fishing period of the lake's sardines (end june/early july) is the perfect opportunity for 3 celebration days in which these marvellous fishes can be tasted, prepared after old recipes of the lake Iseo zone and served with Polenta and local cheese. These tastings are accompagnied by exhibitions and music.
Celebration of Mushrooms and Chestnuts, Pisogne
At the last Sunday in september streets and squares of Pisogne are painted in autumn colors and exhibitors filling their stands with the aromatic smell of mushrooms, chestnuts and other local products. At the lakeside sweet chestnuts are stewing in enormous pots while everybody can taste them. In the village you find many stands with a wide choise of mushrooms, chestnuts, cheese and other delicious things.
From Olive to Oil, Marone
In early june "from olive... to oil" takes place. The oportunity to celebrate the oil produced in this wonderful part of the lake Iseo. Furthermore Marone becomes a performing place for street theatre and street musicians.
Porsel market and celebration of bacon, Ossimo
At the end of December Ossimo celebrates the camun tradition of slaughtering. It gives a complete overview regarding preparation of typical sausages of this region, especially of Salami which antique traditions have been rediscovered again lately.
Spongada Market, Breno
In April the queen of all camun sweets is celebrated: Spongada. A wonderful oportunity to taste and buy this traditional sweet bread from Breno.
Mangiaevai (eat-and-run), Ponte di Legno
The community of Ponte di Legno in July offers an entertaining excursion passing a beautiful landscape with organized stops. Along the way miscellanious stops offer various high-quality products of the region to be tasted.
