Adamello Park
The park was founded in 1983 and covers a zone of 51.000 hectare (from Tonale pass to Crocedomini pass). Due to it's central position, it forms the biggest protected area in Europe (250.000 hectare) together with the Park of the Trentino region, the Stelvio park and the Engadin park (CH).
The Adamello massif is located in the middle of the park at the flanks of the Retic Alps. The park stretches at the north-eastern side of province Brescia.
From Tonale in south direction you are passing the following communities: Ponte di Legno, Temù, Vione, Vezza d'Oglio, Incudine, Edolo, Sonico, Malonno, Berzo Demo, Cedegolo, Cevo, Saviore dell'Adamello, Paspardo, Cimbergo, Ceto, Braone, Niardo, Breno und Prestine. The Adamello massif is dominated by Italy's biggest glacier (ca. 18 skm surface). From this central glacier pikes and mountain chains are stretching such as Baitone, Frisozzo and Blumone.
From north to south the main valleys are: Valle Narcanello, Valbione, Val d'Avio, Val di Vallaro, Val Paghéra di Vezza d'Oglio, Val Finale, Val Gallinera, Val Rabbia, Val Malga, Valle di Saviore, Val Salarno, Valle Adamé, Val Paghéra di Ceto, Valle del Re, Valle di Fa, Valle di Stabio, Valle delle Valli, Val Bona, Val Cadino, Val di Braone (as well known as Foppe di Braone) and Valle del Caffaro.
Flora and Fauna are typically alpine. Below 900 meters deciduous woodland covers the zone with a variety of deciduous trees: chestnut, copper beeches, ashtree, willow, birch, wild cherry and many other plants. Above 1.000 meters you find woodlands mainly consisting of conifers which found an ideal environment. In the undergrowth you find blueberries and other fruits. Further up you find sparse lark forests with some impressing species of larks growing near Malga Casentia in Val Saviore.
Within the Adamello Park you find a rich Fauna, including bears. In valleys, deciduous woods and conifer forests live badgers, weasles and martens. The park holds deers, chamois', wolves, hermelins, marmots and alpine goats. You can watch golden eagles, wood grouses and other rare species.
